FROM THE SKI DECKBy Pat Piech, VP Trips

By this time, many of you have signed up for the ski trips you want, but I am sure there are still plenty of you that have not yet decided on what trip to take this season.

Several trips are already on wait list status. They include Sun Valley, Vail long and Park City long. But don’t let that dissuade you entirely. We still have several great options for skiing this season. If you really have your heart set on one of these trips, then get on the wait list. You never know what can open up prior to departure.

At the time I write this, all of the other trips have openings. But as final payments for each trip comes, we will be incurring penalties for unsold air and lodging. The final payments are set so that we can make decisions on releasing this unsold air and lodging before penalties set in. We may decide to keep a few extra spaces for those of you who still wish to get on these trips. The best way to insure you get on any specific trip is to sign up before the final payment date.

This year, we made an extra effort to offer more short trips. This is especially for those members with limited vacation time. For short trip options, I suggest Park City and Heavenly, both in January as well as Crested Butte in February.

This year, we have 2 international trips. This winter the TSC Expedition is to Neustift, Austria and the highlights of this trip will definitely be the Stubai Glacier as well as the post trip option to Prague. Thailand will be offered in the summer of 2007 and is sure to be a fabulous trip. The trip includes stays in Bangkok, Chaing Mai and Phuket as well as a post trip option to Cambodia. Early sign up for Thailand will start October 1st.

So don’t procrastinate! Whether you fancy a long weekend skiing the slopes and playing the slots in Heavenly or exploring the reaches of the Far East, Space City Ski Club has the trip for you.

Public Relations and MembershipBy Barbara Della Longa, Director of Public Relations

We’ve had a great start to the new season with our Recruit a New Member and Win Contest which ended on September 30! Thanks to all who have participated, and keep on recruiting! Be sure to come to the October general meeting when the winners who will receive ski trip credits for this upcoming season will be announced.

Our goal this year is to grow the membership at SCSC and have a lot of fun doing it! Please be sure to invite your friends, coworkers, relatives and acquaintances to join SCSC. We have also established an “Information Line” which we encourage prospective members to call in order to get more information about the club (713-866-4021).

Once again, we have a great group of Ambassadors who will be “meeting and greeting” guests and new members at our meetings and happy hours and will be helping with special activities. Along those lines, don’t miss Sun & Ski’s VIP Party on Friday, October 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. at their 6100 Westheimer store. Visit with representatives of quite a few Colorado ski resorts and check out their pre-season ski sale. Light snacks and beverages will be served!

Finally, if you are interested in volunteering, be sure to let us know. It’s a great way to become more involved in the club and to meet a lot of really great people! If you have any suggestions or are interested in volunteering, be sure to contact Jessica Halter at vpmembership@spacecityskiclub.org or me at prdirector@spacecityskiclub.org.
