Well, summer is just about upon us and while many of you are thinking about summer vacations and weekends at the beach, we are busy planning for next season. Yes, believe it or not, our many volunteers are working hard on all of the details for next season’s ski trips, social activities and programs.Space City Ski Club is a not-for-profit organization that must rely on volunteers to exist.I encourage each of you to think about donating some of your time to SCSC.Whether it is as an activity coordinator, trip leader or helper, it can be great fun and a great way to meet new people. Talk to one of the executive committee members, board members or ambassadors for more information on ways to get involved.
In May, we had a great turnout for our annual Sunshine Kids Charity Auction. A big “thank you” to everyone who donated products and services and an extra big “thank you” to those who purchased something. This was the 12th year that SCSC supported the Sunshine Kids charity and we have raised over $100,000 to date.Your donation is going to a great cause and we sincerely appreciate it. |
Although we suspend monthly meeting during the summer, we still get together for special events and happy hours. In June, our annual Volunteer Party is our chance to really thank the people who help with the various activities and events throughout the year. Also in June, enjoy our pool tourney at the June Happy Hour at Fast Eddie’s on Richmond. Upcoming in July is our annual Summer Spectacular which is held in conjunction with TASS.Be sure to ALWAYS refer to the SCSC web site for the most up-to-date information on all activities and events.
Finally, I want to invite each of you to share your ideas and suggestions with the executive committee on ways to improve and make Space City the social/ski club you want.We will do our best to deliver! |

In July, this space should contain a list of the trips we intend to offer for next season but without prices. The list with prices will be ready for early trip signup in August. We are looking at areas from Canada in the North to Eastern Europe to the usual haunts in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. We will endeavor to keep the prices within reason although that is becoming more and more difficult, especially in areas outside of the United States.
I have spent most of my time recently looking for good people to help out running the trips. When we had 1400 members that was not so hard to do. Now with a bit over 700 members it takes more and more time. This club is an all volunteer club. The more we do ourselves the better prices we can offer for the trips. I am still short a few people to help run trips. Depending on price, the trip leader gets his trip for his work and the assistant gets half his trip. The idea is for the assistant to learn the ropes so that he can lead a trip the next year. If you want to help, please let me hear from you. tedwidmer1@aol.com. I will see you next month with a list of trips. |

Our club urgently needs volunteers to help get these activities accomplished. We have an immediate need for a Director of Programs and a Happy Hour Coordinator. We also need activity coordinators.
