Aosta, Italy is the destination for the Texas Ski Council’s 2010 Winter Expedition. Aosta is often referred to as the Rome of the Alps. It ranks third among Italian cities for its number of ancient Roman ruins. SCSC will be departing Houston on Thursday, January 21 and returning Friday, January 29, 2010. We will be staying at Hostellerie du Cheval Blanc. It is located near Aosta’s historical centre and 800 meters from the cableway to Pila ski area.
The town of Aosta is located in the center of the Valley of Aosta. The Aosta Valley lies in the most mountainous region of Italy and is located in the northwest corner adjoining Switzerland and France. The valley is surrounded by splendid peaks of the Alps: Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, and the Gran Paradiso. The valley comprises twenty ski resorts. Among these are five world-class ski areas, all accessed by a single lift pass: Aosta-Pila (our base), Courmayeur - Mont Blanc, La Thuile, Valtournenche – Breuil – Cervinia – Zermatt, and Monterosa Ski: Ayas/Gressoney/Alagna. A TSC ski bus service will provide access to all.
For non-skiers, there are several fortified castles for us to explore including Fénis, Aymavilles, Issogne and Verrés. Some of the tentative daily excursions include Aosta City Walking Tour, Castles plus lunch tours, Courmayeur for shopping plus pampering at the Spa of Pre Saint Didier, and a visit to St Vincent’s casinos. Even a day trip to Chamonix, France is possible.
The tentative pre trip will be in Milan for two nights. The tentative post trip destination will be either London or Como – the Italian Lakes District for three nights.
Please join us for a great variety of skiing and fabulous cultural adventures. This trip will be a fun and exciting adventure for both skiers and non-skiers.
